Over the years, I’ve carried bags and work totes from several of the brands on this list, including Polène, Cuyana, Coach, and DeMellier. For me, a great work bag needs to be practical, feel worth the price, and work with the rest of my wardrobe.

Depending on your routine, that might mean space for a laptop and documents, an easy-to-reach pocket for your phone, or a secure closure for your commute.
Classic totes are a natural choice, but other bag styles can be just as practical. That’s why this guide also includes bowling bags, satchels, hobos, and convertible backpacks, like the DeMellier Stockholm, Coach Brooklyn 39, Tory Burch Romy Bauletto, and M.Gemi Laura.

How I Chose These Work Totes
Every bag on this list is mid-luxury: elevated, premium brands a step below the major luxury houses in price, with most ranging from $300 to $1,000.
I compared each pick with similarly priced options, including plenty that didn’t make the final list. I considered materials, lining, craftsmanship, and design, along with the details that matter for daily use: laptop fit, closure, strap options, and weight. I also looked at where each bag is made and read reviews for comfort, durability, and everyday practicality.
My picks are based on that research, my experience with the brands, and the bags I’ve owned or seen in person. Specs come from each brand’s own website and were checked in October 2026.

If you’re looking for one soft leather tote that goes from the office to a weekend away, the Cuyana Classic Easy Zipper Tote is hard to beat. Made in Türkiye from Italian leather, it weighs just 1.6 pounds and hides a zipper along the top so nothing spills out on your commute.
It also comes in a Tall size, which fits a 15 to 16 inch laptop, and a Small size, which fits up to a 14 inch laptop. It’s available in a range of classic neutrals, plus limited colorways that come and go quickly.
Laptop fit: Cuyana says the Classic Easy Zipper Tote fits a 15 to 16 inch laptop.

Good to know: The Classic Easy Zipper Tote is unstructured, so it slouches when it isn’t full. Cuyana sells a tote insert and a crossbody strap separately if you want more shape.
2. Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39
Gen Z has made Coach one of its go-to handbag brands, and the Brooklyn 39 has become a favorite throw-in-and-go work tote.
It has room for a 15 inch laptop, and the natural grain leather has a relaxed hobo shape, a magnetic snap closure, and an inside snap pocket. The 12.5-inch handle drop sits comfortably on the shoulder.

3. The Horse Teddy Tote
If you prefer a true minimalist tote, The Horse’s Teddy Tote has no exterior hardware and only a quiet logo. It’s made from fine-grain cowhide with only the necessary seams, and it’s left unlined to keep it light at 1.8 pounds. Inside, a metal clasp and a zipped pocket keep cards and keys secure.

4. M.Gemi The Laura Convertible Backpack
Two bags in one, M.Gemi’s Laura switches from a shoulder tote to a backpack when you slide the straps. It’s handmade in Abruzzo, Italy, from Italian tumbled calf leather that M.Gemi describes as luxuriously soft and lightweight (1.7 pounds). It’s lined in linen and closes with a top zip, with one zip pocket and one slip pocket inside.

Good to know: The 8.6-inch handle drop is on the short side, so it can feel snug on the shoulder over a coat. The backpack straps are the easier carry in winter.
5. Veronica Beard Lasso Belted Tote
Veronica Beard’s Lasso Belted Tote borrows the belt details from the brand’s signature Dash bag and puts them on this roomy East-West tote.
Made from American materials, including the embossed grain leather and microsuede lining, it has interior zip and slip pockets and a magnetic closure. Cinch the side belts for a more sculptural shape, or leave them loose for a slouchier look.

6. Paris/64 Manhattan XL
If you want a bag you won’t see everywhere, Paris/64’s Manhattan XL is handmade in Spain by a brand that’s still under the radar in the US. The quality holds up to scrutiny: leather expert Tanner Leatherstein cut open a Manhattan in an unsponsored review and found true full-grain calfskin and top-scoring hardware. It has gold-plated stainless steel hardware, a central magnetic closure, a full lining, and an inside pocket.
Laptop fit: Paris/64 doesn’t state a laptop size, but at 18.7 inches wide, it should have room for a 15 inch laptop.

Good to know: At about 2.3 pounds, the Manhattan XL is one of the heavier soft totes here. Paris/64 offers free shipping and returns, with duties included in the price.
7. Manu Atelier Cambon Cabas
Fashion insiders already know about this understated work tote from Manu Atelier. Made in Türkiye from LWG gold-rated calf leather, the Cambon Cabas is built from eight stitched leather panels, which give it a sculptural shape that still feels soft.
The Cambon Cabas fits your laptop with room left for your wallet, sunglasses, and a small cosmetic pouch, yet weighs only about 1.5 pounds, one of the lightest leather totes in this post. Inside, a suede lining and a removable zipped pouch keep small things together, and a magnetic closure holds it shut.
Laptop fit: Manu Atelier says the Cambon Cabas fits a 16 inch laptop.

Handmade in Europe from LWG gold-rated Italian leather, the Stockholm has a center sleeve for a laptop or A4 documents, a zip pocket on one side, slip pockets on the other, and an outside magnetic pocket to keep your phone handy.
I own DeMellier’s New York bucket bag (it’s no longer sold), and its leather and hardware have held up to daily use and travel. I’d definitely buy another DeMellier bag.
Laptop fit: DeMellier says the Stockholm fits up to a 14 inch laptop in its dedicated compartment. One owner says a 14 inch MacBook Pro only just fits with the zip closed.

Good to know: At about 2.6 pounds, the Stockholm is on the heavier side for its size. The Cut’s reviewer says it’s worth the splurge and highly functional, though it holds a bit less than the Cuyana Classic Easy Zipper Tote and can slip off the shoulder when full, so on heavy days you may want to carry it by hand or in the crook of your arm.
9. Strathberry Mosaic Cabas
Meghan Markle helped put Scottish label Strathberry on the map, and Kate Middleton has since become one of its biggest fans. If you want a structured tote that zips shut, the Mosaic Cabas is handcrafted in Spain from grain calf leather with gold hardware. Strathberry shows it holding a water bottle, notebook, wallet, and keys alongside your laptop. The 12.6-inch strap drop makes it easy to carry from your desk to a travel day.

Cuyana’s System Tote has been topping "best work tote" lists since its 2021 debut, and it’s become one of the brand’s best-selling bags.
Its modular snap-in system helps you stay organized. You can clip in a laptop sleeve, then add the System Organizer Pouch, with open pockets for the things you grab all day and a zip pocket for anything you want secure. I recommend the System Zipper Tote because I love that the whole bag closes. It’s also a couple of inches taller than the original, with a longer 11-inch handle drop and a zip pocket inside.
Laptop fit: Cuyana says the System Zipper Tote fits a 15 to 16 inch laptop.
Dimensions: 19.5" W x 13" H x 5.5" D, 11" handle drop
Good to know: The 16-inch laptop sleeve ($118) is sold separately, as are the other add-ons, including pouches and straps. The thicker leather and leather lining bring it to 2.5 pounds, almost a pound more than the Classic Easy Zipper Tote. If you carry a smaller laptop, there’s also a 13-inch version ($478).
16. Lo & Sons O.G. 2
If you want a durable workhorse for heavy commutes and travel, Lo & Sons’ O.G. 2 checks every box, and it’s one of the more affordable bags on this list. The exterior is water-resistant recycled nylon, and the padded laptop compartment sits on the outside behind water-resistant zippers, so you can pull your laptop out at security or a coffee shop without opening the main bag. A side pocket keeps shoes or gym clothes separate, a printed lining in a contrasting color makes things easy to spot, and it fits under most airplane seats with a sleeve that slides over your carry-on.

I’ve owned the original Cyme for a few years and love its quality and style. The new Cyme Tote has the same signature look in a more practical shape if you need to carry a laptop.

22. Manu Atelier Le Cambon 40
If you like the Cambon Cabas (#7) but are in the market for a top-handle bag, the Le Cambon 40 is a polished, classic option. It has gently curved lines and a shape that’s structured but still soft, so it reads more like a handbag than a tote. It’s made in Türkiye from the same LWG gold-rated calf leather, closes with a magnet, and has an interior zip pocket, with room for your laptop, a large wallet, sunglasses, and a small makeup bag.
